Patterned Cake Roll

Ingredients of Patterned Cake Roll:
For the pattern:
  • 1 egg white
  • 11/2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp butter, softened
  • Color, as desired (I used deep pink)
  • Template of your choice
  • 2 parchment papers (sprinkled with sugar)
  For the cake:
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp water
  For the filling:
  • 1 /2 cup whipping cream
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp raspberry jam
DSC07913 How to Prepare Patterned Cake Roll Take 1/4  sheet pan. Line it with parchment paper. Put your template under the parchment under the pan. For the pattern: In a bowl beat the egg white with a fork. Add in sugar. And then the flour. Mix well. Beat in the butter to make a smooth paste. Add desired color,Put in piping bags and using the template as a guideline, pipe the pattern. Put in the freezer for at least 15 minutes, and make the cake batter. For the cake:
  • Preheat the oven to 375 F.
  • Using a stand mixer or hand mixer-fitted with a whisk attachment, beat the 4 eggs for 5 minutes. Gradually add in the granulated sugar and beat for an additional 5 minutes, till the mixture is pale. Mix in the vanilla and water
  • Sift the flour with the baking powder in a separate bowl. Fold in the flour till well combined. But do not over beat.
  • Take the sheet pan with the piped pattern out of the freezer. Remove template from under the parchment paper.
  • Pour the batter over the pattern. Let it  bake for 10 minutes. The cake is done when you lightly touch the surface with the tip of your finger and the cake springs back. don't over bake it.
  • While the cake is baking, sprinkle powdered sugar on a piece of parchment paper. Once the cake is baked remove the cake from the  tray and flip it on to the prepared parchment paper ,
  • Once flipped over, pull the first parchment paper out from the decorated side. Flip it over again  on to a second prepared parchment paper( sprinkled with powdered sugar)  and roll it ,  ensure  the pattern is shown on the top of the roll
  • Let it  sit on the  counter till its completely cool.
  • After the roll is cooled down
  • Unroll the patterned cake roll, remove the parchment paper. Now spread the  raspberry jam and  spread the whipped cream on top , roll the cake tightly to form a log again.
  • Serve at room temperature.
